Teaching emphasis within the studio is geared towards developing the students' proficiency in a number of areas including: effective structuring of practice time, providing answers to 'How you should practice and why you should practice that way', establishing the all-important solid technical foundation for negotiating the challenges of the instrument, and repertoire building. A heavy emphasis is also placed, at all levels of development, upon sight reading and quick study skills. When repertoire is being taught, additional perspectives such as various theoretical and historical concepts will be introduced to compliment the students appreciation for the music which he or she is studying. For students approaching more intermediate levels, it is suggested that these students partake in more comprehensive Theory and History courses, with Michael. These courses are required by the Royal Conservatory of Music in order to obtain practical examination certificates. Courses Offered Piano Teaching: Michael is happy to work with students in preparation through all levels of internationally recognized piano examinations offered by: The Royal Conservatory of Music, the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, The Trinity College. Preparation assistance for University auditions and contests is also provided. Fees: are charged by the month - tuition is due at the first lesson of each month. Theory/History Courses: - Grade 1 Rudiments - Grade 2 Rudiments - Grade 2 Rudiments "All in One" (Preliminary, Grade 1 and Grade 2 Rudiments) - Grade 3 Harmony, Grade 3 History - Grade 4 Counterpoint, Grade 4 Harmony, Grade 4 History - Grade 5 Harmony and Counterpoint, Grade 5 Analysis, Grade 5 History Theory and History courses are taught to prepare students for RCM theory compliments required in order to obtain their practical certificate. Courses are presented in 14 weeks of classes prior to the given examination date. Classes are 90 minutes in length. Maximum enrollment per class is 6. One-on-one instruction is also available.
