Michael loves to teach and has made working with gifted pre-college talent an integral aspect of his own development as an artist and teacher. Within the past year Michael's students have achieved the following: - Senior examinations for the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Royal Academy of Music Examinations (London). All of Michael's students undertaking examinations received marks of at least First Class Honors. - One of Michael's students was accepted into the prestigious Bachelor of Music degree program at the University of Toronto. - One of Michael's students performed with the Canadian Sinfonietta Orchestra in their 'Family Fun' series at the Glenn Gould Studio. - One of Michael's students was a featured prize-winner at the Provincial level in Ontario. Numerous others enjoyed success in regional contests within Southern Ontario. - Several of Michael's students achieved excellent standing on their RCM theory and history examinations ……..Michael has maintained a private teaching studio for well over a decade. From 1999-2003, he served as piano faculty at the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory School of Rice University in Houston, Texas. During his tenure in Houston, Michael's students: were accepted into important undergraduate music programs in Texas, enjoyed success in numerous contests including the World Piano Competition under 16 division, and performed in masterclasses for all of the resident piano faculty at Rice University. Michael also coordinated two summer piano festivals at Rice University geared towards gifted pre-college piano talents from around the Southern and Midwestern |
United States. During these events, he presented masterclasses and taught alongside resident Rice University piano faculty. Michael has extensive experience as a masterclass clinician. He has presented masterclasses for the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association (ORMTA), the Ontario Music Festivals Association (OMFA), the University of Western Ontario, Rice University and University of Texas at El Paso. As a competition judge, Michael has adjudicated a variety of contests in Canada and the United States - most recently the 2005 Provincial Finals contest for the Ontario Music Festivals Association held at the University of Ottawa. By way of special projects, he is presently coordinating a National Concerto Competition for piano students aged 16-23 for the Canadian Sinfonietta Orchestra. |
